I'm a fan of being a fan because fandom rocks.

Hiya, I'm Meghann, gamer, pagan, and cape-chasing superhero fan.

This place is about 80% DC comics and a smattering of things like Buffy, Steampunk, HP, Supernatural, and other things I really like. Expect lots of gaming as well. I play Guild Wars, Guild Wars 2, Tera, DC Universe Online, and Star Trek Online MMOs.

Favorite Bird of Prey?

gailsimone:

Any version of the team, past or current.

Who do you love best of these fabulous ladies?

I can’t choose just one!  It wouldn’t be much of a team then. ;)

Personally I love the dynamics between Oracle, Black Canary, Huntress, and Lady Blackhawk the best.  Those are the ones who always spring right to my mind when I hear someone mention BoP.

Although I have a serious weak spot for Canary.  I think Sensei and Student was my favorite arc just because I really felt like I got to see and understand her character so well.  :)

Huntress: I’m not even in the Justice League anymore. You’re lucky to have me along.

The Question: Hardly. You’re drawn to my eccentric charm.

“Uh…Dinner and a movie?”  “It’s a start.”

Birds of Prey #59 and #108

There’s a 49 issue gap in between the first image and the second.

Those are my girls.

BoP is so perfect it hurts.

I love this book so much.

I literally JUST finished reading this one this morning.  I was sobbing over the absolute perfection.  D:  ALL OF THE CHARACTERS.  ALL SO PERFECT.

It wasn’t until someone else pointed it out to me did I realize all this publicity for Alan Scott is being done while other perfectly good queer characters are now on the back burner. I mean, where’s Renee?
I loved the interaction between Renee and Helena (Bertinelli) but of course, they had to take away Bertinelli too though she wasn’t queer.
I can see the point of the publicity for Alan Scott, but again, why not bring some of these old characters back?
What’s that saying about being damned if you do …

The entire Helena and Renee story drives me insane in how under-utilized the dynamic is. I mean, here’s Renee—a legacy character who takes on the persona of The Question after Vic passes on and hands the mantle over to her, and here’s Helena who worked very closely (and was very close) with Vic, and there’s SO MUCH unused potential for stories there.
Look at how fantastic Jaime and Booster’s storyline has played out. Helena and Renee got like 1/8th of that, if even, because DC doesn’t seem to realize people love Renee Montoya and Helena.
It makes me so sad! They could have had their own miniseries with Greg and Gail. But that never happened and now Helena has pretty much been axed and who the hell knows where Renee is right now.
Gail’s implied several times that Renee is going to be back but every month she isn’t is another month closer to almost a year without Renee appearing canonically on-page in anything (Batman 80-Page Giant, August 2011). It’s been a little over/thereabouts a year since Renee was in Birds of Prey as well, so we haven’t seen her in continuity for an entire year, as the 80-Page Giant kind of just Exists.
And that’s just sad, since (correct me if I’m wrong, please) Renee’s appeared regularly at least twice a year in something since No Man’s Land in 1999, even more frequently since 2003 and Gotham Central (since Gotham Central was followed directly by52, and 52 by Countdown which led into Final Crisis and then the stuff in ‘Tec with Pipeline and Batwoman etc etc).
So it’s not like Renee just kind of casually popped in here and there like some second-rate Batman villain. She’s at least a one and a half rate Batman supporting character!
And I care about where the hell she is.
JUST IN CASE I DON’T MAKE THAT OBVIOUS ENOUGH.

Seeing these scans reminds me of just how hard I shipped these two together after reading Pipeline and the Birds of Prey story where the two of them teamed up just made me want them to get together even more
Because seriously, just imagine how good these two would be as a couple. Renee and Helena together would be SUCH an awesome pairing and there are so many cool stories that could be done with them
Fabulous Gotham girlfriends, solving mysteries, fighting villains and being amazing together <3

^YES!^ And I do hope Renee has more than a cameo, in the coming years in the DCnU. I miss her eyefucking with every lady she’s with.
Yes to all of this.  D:  Renee needs to come back, and not just as a throwaway character in the background of someone else’s story.  Even if she won’t be The Question (because that’s apparently an uber-mystical thing now?), Sassy Cop Ladies are always allowed!
