Heart of Hush
The BatCat book of all BatCat books. ;_; The things he feels for his pretty kitty…
I just read part of Catwoman #18—thankfully I had fair warning from helenawaynehuntress too as I am absolutely appalled by how Ann Nocenti has written Bruce and Selina for the Requiem arc. Like helenawaynehuntress told me, you just have to see the whole thing for yourself.
Now see these three pages above, from Detective Comics #800?
That’s how I picture them going through grief together. Not this horrid caricature of the very worst of both Batman and Catwoman.
This… is exactly how it was for Selina and I… all those years ago.
JFC I hate Nocenti’s run. I actually bought Catwoman #18 today because I hoped the interaction between her and Batman would be good, but GODDAMN I want my 2.99 back. I don’t even know what I got my hopes up for because I dropped the book 3 issues ago because the writing was so…bad. :(
I actually think that Winick’s version of Selina, while still ridiculous and problematic, was way better! She at least had some kind of agency in her decisions and her interactions with others didn’t feel as much like watching an emotionally stunted teenager gallivant around with a simpering smile and a whiny attitude. She seemed to actually care about other people and felt horrible when things turned bad for them. Remember the guilt she felt over Lola’s death? I believed it.
Actually the review of Catwoman #0 that Gotham Spoilers did pretty much accurately sums up how INSANE Selina’s character sounds under Nocenti. :\
AND DON’T GET ME STARTED ON HOW SHE BUTCHERED BRUCE OH MY GOD WHAT EVEN WAS ALL THEIR DIALOGUE I JUST CAN’T
Ugh I didn’t mean to rant about the badness, but it’s just SO BAD.
This stuff up there though? THAT is good BatCat interaction. So lets all look at that and pretend that Catwoman #18 doesn’t exist.
Also, at least she was fun in JLA #2. I was ready to ship her and Trevor last month and now it’s like they’re handing it to me and I don’t know how to feel about that. XD

Uhhhh that Bleedingcool rumour about Scott Lodbell being replaced by James Tynion VI for RHatO… I don’t know how to feel about it.
Tumblr would be happy. Until the first issue hits, then find something to complain about because you will never ever make all Jason Todd fans happy.
Yeah, but it won’t have anything to do with characterization. It’ll probably be another Catwoman problem. At least Lobdell and Winnick and other writers tumblr loves to hate can string a storyline together on occasion. Nocenti’s last Catwoman issue was a horrible mess, and I REALLY don’t want to see that happen to RHatO because it’s one of my favorites despite the problems with how the characters are portrayed. The game of musical chairs they’ve been playing with writers and artists since the new 52 happened have made the stories suffer pretty badly.
I heard some bad things about Noceti’s Catwoman, but I thought it was an isolated opinion. I guess it’s not really doing well, is it? I don’t mind writer changes, as long as the new writer keeps the characterization stable and is able to put a good story out there. I think my main fear right now is that the new writer (if the rumour is true, that is, because that came from Bleeding Cool) has the ”Jason is a villain” mentality, which is my reason number #1 for not wanting Winnick on the title, despite how much I liked Lost Days. Jason is over his teenage angst, now he has young-adult angst, let’s leave it that way.
Anyway, from what I’ve read around the ‘net, it seems like Tynion, besides being Talon’s writer, is also the one who wrote the Batman backup story with all the family. If that’s true, from what little Jason we got in those pages, I think it might turn out ok. Though there’s Kori and Roy’s characterization to take into account too. Maybe we’ll get creepier/more ”relatistic” storylines if we get a Batwriter on the title, I wouldn’t mind RHATO going for a different kind of stories now and then, more crime-fighting related, not quite as many magic/alien shenanigans. I mean, we can get both kinds, considering we’ve aliens and humans on the team.
Nocenti’s Selina is completely different in all the wrong ways. She sounds like a crazy person who can’t function normally as opposed to a jaded person just living on the fringes of society. The side characters have lost their voices too, and the story is just difficult to follow. There’s only so much you can cram into a title per month and boy did she cram it in. I’m honestly dropping it for now.
It’s supposed to be Jason’s book mainly, so I certainly wouldn’t mind getting back to some more down-to-earth storylines. Although it is also a team book, and I didn’t mind the trip to space especially since it fell between the Night of the Owls and the Death of the Family bat stories which are extremely Jason- and Gotham-centric.
Tynion’s writing on Talon has been pretty damn good so far, but I’m still always nervous when there’s a big change up in the creative teams on any book because there is literally no way of knowing whether you’ll get a smash hit or drivel just because of conflicting views on the characters and storylines that don’t synch up at all. :\
